Upon graduation, it is inevitable to reflect on that which could have been different, and surely some, myself included, would have liked to have been more involved with Chabad. Come sophomore year, the regularity of my Friday night attendance was fractured despite my absolute love for Shabbos at Chabad – other college activities took to the forefront of my schedule. College life became an ongoing quest for fun and excitement and together with the people I love, most of whom thanks to Chabad’s introduction we set out to explore other aspects of BU.
Years passed, and university life seemed to conduct itself in a manner not subjected to the calendar the rest of the world lives by. Our time felt infinite, outside factors were of no concern, and relatively carefree days generated memories filled with blissful laughter. But this type of sentiment is always subject to change and it is at these times when it is instinctual to revert back to that which is safe, comfortable and reliable.
Chabad came through. With open arms they welcomed me back and quickly established themselves as a dependable refuge to which I’d turn. They cared for me the way I needed to be cared for and the familiarity of the love they showed was one only a Jew can understand. And just imagine that I am but one person, and the Chabad House has this effect on hundreds of kids, ones just like me, every single year. So on behalf of us all, I can do nothing more but to thank you and feel confident that appreciation is all you’d ever want in return.
