When I first came to Binghamton, I knew that I would be involved with Jewish activities, but I could never fathom the extent. After my freshman year, I realized Chabads potential to reach out to many students who never were connected with anything Jewish. I took it into my hands to try and be more active, and try to help put on programs which all students would enjoy attending. I quickly realized that many students are disenfranchised from their respective religions and from different sects of their religions. Students acted as many people do, by sticking with those who are like them and avoiding those who are different. Chabad has been able to break that mold which plagues our society and our world. Chabad is a non judgmental place to eat, sing, dance, and even sometimes pray (if you want to). It is a place where everyone is able to join together regardless of beliefs. It is my hope that the rest of Binghamton, and the rest of society can look at what happens within the walls of the Binghamton Chabad and learn from its openness, kindness, and diversity.
