On the first Friday night of freshman year, I had no idea what to expect at Chabad or what Chabad even was, but me and my roommate attached ourselves to the group of people also making the trek from Newing, who said, "Come on, it's free Shabbat dinner!" My family is not observant, and so I had no way of knowing that I would be dining with 300 other Jewish students, with enough challah, pasta, and chicken for everyone, in such a festive environment.
For four years, Chabad has made me feel welcome and has helped to broaden my experiences at Binghamton. Rabbi Slonim only spoke with me for a few seconds that first Friday, but never forgot who I was. I didn't meet Rivky that first Shabbat, but I met her through JHP meetings, and she was instrumental in helping me see Judaism in a better light. I've gone to Chabad less often since moving off campus, but they always make me feel as if I make more than just occasional appearances, and are always genuinely happy to welcome me back. Thank you!
