I can still remember the first time I went to the Chabad house on a Friday night my freshman year. I couldn't believe how many people came together every week to have dinner and celebrate Shabbat. I immediately felt welcomed as Rivky introduced herself to me, making sure she knew my name, so that the next time she saw me she could give me a warm greeting. It took a while to get completely comfortable in this new surrounding, especially since I wasn't used to having a big dinner for Shabbat. One of my friends was a tremendous help, explaining things to me and introducing me to many new people.
Also meaningful to my Jewish experience at Binghamton was being part of the Jewish Heritage Programs. It really helped me to gain more knowledge about the religion and provided me with a venue for learning and socializing with my Jewish peers, of all denominations. Both Jewish Heritage Programs and Chabad sponsored many of the Jewish events and programs I attended while at Binghamton, and I'm thankful they were part of my Jewish collegiate experience... an experience I will never forget.
