My major accomplishment in Binghamton is coming to the realization that as long as a person puts in all of his effort, G-d will provide the rest. I can demonstrate it by looking back at my own personal experiences at Binghamton University. I'll start off when I was a lowly pre-fresh looking for schools. I applied to NYU, among other places, but did not get in. Queens College did not have a business program, so I figured, Alright, I'll go to Binghamton." It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made in my life.
I did not realize it at the time, but Binghamton University provides a vast array of resources and talents. To begin with, the education I received, in my opinion, is comparable with almost any college in the country. I learned so many valuable tools through the School of Management. More importantly, I met some of the most wonderful and caring professors that a student can have. The teachers that I encountered were more than willing to go over a problem that I had until I understood it. They cared for the students and wanted to make sure that their students got the most out of his or her class.
The next opportunity which Binghamton provides is a warm social atmosphere. Many students, including myself, are not always fully aware of how special it is to share a Shabbos meal with 200 students every week. I cannot even begin to mention the great cast of characters that I have met throughout my four years at Binghamton. I know that I would not have been able to meet a more caring and exciting group of friends than I have met in Binghamton.
The next resource which I could not have forseen coming into Binghamton is my sports show in Binghamton. It was through this venue that I realized what my future job aspirations will be. I also got over my fear of public speaking thanks to the Ferrets. Every week we went up there making up lyrics as they popped into our heads. Nowhere else can a group of people sing as badly as we did and yet be allowed to go on stage the next week. Despite the initial embarrassment, I realized how much fun listening to Herman singing at the top of his lungs can be.
Most importantly, however, is I could have never predicted how much Chabad would mean to me. If not for my campus mailbox, I would have probably got my mail sent there. I spent a good majority of my day, from morning minyan to fresh pizza at night, and almost all 25 hours of Shabbos there. Besides the leather couches, what I am going to miss most is the warm kindness that Chabad provides. It allows for a student with the opportunity to grow both physically (I ate a lot at those Schreiber Shalosh Seudot!) and spiritually at your own level. But don't worry, I will be back to ensure that the lessons on being a good husband that Rivky provides did not go to waste. As you can see, it was the best thing that could have happened to me, deciding to choose Binghamton. Therefore, my hope to anybody that is still reading this is, that you utilize all the resources available to you on campus, but realize that ultimately everything comes from G-d.
