Next year I will attend Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia.
I remember nervously walking into the Chabad house on Shabbas for the very first time as a freshman to a sea of unfamiliar faces. It was rather intimidating to enter a room where everyone was a stranger and where everyone seemed to know all the Chabad traditions except for me. Shortly after the conclusion of services and the immediate skirmish to find seating that followed, I quickly learned why Chabad is so special. Where else can Jewish college students come together to share their religion? Where else can you meet the people who would prove to be your best friends throughout college? Where else would two complete strangers open their house to the entire Jewish student body on a weekly basis? In no time at all, I learned the answers to all these questions in what would become one of my most memorable college experiences: Shabbat at Chabad. Soon thereafter, I learned the traditions of Chabad. In fact, I became so adept with Chabad tradition that on several occasions I actually took it upon myself to wash my hands without Rivki having to call upon my table (my apologies for not having done this more often). All kidding aside, Chabad will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will carry with me the lessons it has taught me for the rest of my life. Thank you to Chabad for the memories and for the hospitality you have shown me during the past four years. |
