One of the first things I remember about college is attending Friday night services and dinner at Chabad. I remember being rather overwhelmed and unsure of myself. Who would have thought at the time that I'd be spending the majority of my Friday nights during college feeling pretty much the exact opposite. Chabad soon became the one constant throughout my college career. No matter how bad or how busy of a week I had, I knew when Friday night rolled around I had a place to go where I could just forget it all. Chabad provided me with more than just a place to go to daven Friday night services. It gave me a place to go where I could experience how special sharing Shabbas can be when you spend it with a whole bunch of friends. I think Friday night onegs at Chabad especially illustrate this. I also think part of what makes Chabad so amazing is it is a place where people with all different Jewish backgrounds can go and feel welcome. I would, however, like to see more Jewish students who attend Binghamton University get involved in some facet of Jewish life on campus. I think that efforts need to be continued to create groups that might be able to get more students involved in Jewish activities on campus. |
