I am going to be a Jewish Campus Service Corp Fellow at Hillel Around Chicago's Multi-Campus Center

I came to Binghamton University with a strong Jewish identity. However, it was not until spending time here that I realized a large part of that identity had been lacking: the part that encourages continual learning, questioning, and exploration. Over the past four years, I have come to realize that I am not required to be at any specific destination on my "Jewish journey"; I am only required to continue moving along the path, and that is exactly what I have been able to do at Binghamton. I have been able to explore my Judaism in an open, caring environment where I was neither judged nor categorized. The Chabad House has been instrumental in enabling that to happen, and no words are sufficient enough to express my gratitude. Their staff are among the most incredible people I have ever known, and I could not ask for better role models at such a significant phase of my life.
I will always cherish the Shabbatot at Binghamton, both at Chabad and at 56 Murray Street. They were some of the most special times in my college life. And of course there is the Women's Cabaret. Each year that event grew more special to me, particularly after returning from a semester in Israel, when I needed a shomer Shabbat environment in which to pursue my love of theater. I cannot thank Chabad enough for providing that. As for additions to Jewish life at this university, many people know that I have been working hard to try to establish an official Hillel foundation at Binghamton, in order to further augment the thriving Jewish life that we are so lucky to have. I fervently hope to see the culmination of that effort in a Hillel foundation that works closely with pre-existing Jewish groups on campus, such as Chabad, Hillel-JSU, and JHP.
While I am excited to begin a new phase of my life, I am sad about what I am leaving behind. At the top of the list of things that I will miss the most is Jewish life at Binghamton…and home made Chabad challah!
