North, first stop!! Welcome to Kfar Kedem, a recreation of an ancient village. Our host, Menachem, told us the
history of the modern Kfar, and the decision to run this interesting site, and then sold "Do It On A Donkey" shirts.
First thing was to dress "as our ancestors did" in our quest for discovering our history. Leor, Vered Benhamou and
Yaron try to get their pictures taken.
Todd Snow dons his garb, but holds onto the baseball cap.
Debby Mayer, Dan Ahoubim, Zvi, Yaron, Leor, Matty Fuchs and Chris McGuire pose for a photo op.
And in the foreground, Rachel Epstein and Adam Perry are suited up.
Matty struggles with the headgear, but gets it ready in time for the group picture below.
Here it is!! Try to find yourself...
Finally, down to business. Menachem explains the process by which our ancestors prepared their bread - Hard work,
sweat, tears and prayer, all the while treating our animals with the utmost consideration.
After plowing, planting, praying, harvesting and threshing, we are left with small wheat
kernels that are then ground up in a mill, shown here, to get flour. The sound of the stones
grinding against each other was, as Menachem put it, "the first rock music." Ha, ha.
Tovah gasps for air as she and Rabbi Slonim place their flat dough on the fire-heated upside-down bowl thingy.
Barak, having somehow avoided the smoke cloud, gently lays his bread down to bake.
Rabbi Creeger (top) and a donkey. Click here to watch a video of the whole crew riding donkeys. <coming soon>
Yay! Food! We all ate on the floor in a bedouin-style tent. Served was Pita, salad, olives,
rice, spicy meat log-shaped things, and water.
